It was creepy calm in downtown Manhattan tonight when I was leaving work. Apparently, Irene’s reputation precedes her, and people decided to get the heck outta dodge. Downtown was eerily empty, save the many, many NYPD officers on the streets.

Each day, Ground Zero changes measurably. While it took them so long to begin any real construction work, the progress they’ve made over the last few years has been remarkable. Since I’ve been working in the downtown NYC area, I’ve seen the site go from a sad, wasteland of rubble and broken hopes, to what it is now – a living, breathing entity built from that rubble, that encapsulates those hopes, and is on it way to being something even more beautiful and magical than what stood years before.

I woke up not feeling well, and went into work late. Shortly after I got to work, there was an earthquake. After our building (which is right at Ground Zero) was evacuated, the gravity of what could have been a really horrible situation, hit me. I felt irritable and anxious for the rest of the day. Until I came home to hugs from my love, and a dinner of the most awesome comfort food – Pizza Muffins. Things returned to normal, and I feel better. br /

Tonight was a night for family, as we celebrated the 16th birthday of Emily, Sean’s niece (my future niece-in-law!). She’s bubbly, gregarious, and a natural in front of the camera, so she was a great subject for today’s photo!! Happy Birthday, Emily!!! :-)

Another photo from the subway today, but taken while the train was a bit much more slowly.. this is SOOC, except I did boost the saturation just ever so slightly.

I saw this guy on the subway on my way in to work, and there was no way I couldn’t get a quick covert snap. Of course, my subway photo skills aren’t great, so this is what we end up with. I’d love to know what his story was. The combination of the Kanye shades, chipped neon nailpolish, and the cap sleeve t-shirt spoke of someone very, very confused about what is truly “fashionable”.
